The freedom we seek does not live outside us. It emerges as we learn to stay present and connected to ourselves and our world, as it is.
Hello, I’m Katie, the voice behind Freebird Meditations.

Like many, I came to this work through my own lived experience. A restless mind, a body carrying unprocessed experiences, my own experiences of trauma, and years spent searching for relief outside myself. I explored many paths in that search. Therapy, self-help, spiritual teachings, plant-based support, esoteric studies and plenty of what might be called woo-woo. Some offered insight. Some brought temporary relief. None provided the lasting sense of home or freedom I was truly seeking.

What eventually became clear was simple and not easy. There was no way out but through.
When I committed to meditation during a significant life transition and later, mindfulness as a path, I began learning how to stay with my experience as it was. With my breath. With my body. With my emotions. At first, this was uncomfortable and often painful. Over time, with patience and steady practice, something began to soften. I learned how to meet myself with compassion and how to remain present without needing to escape.
Change didn’t happen all at once. It came through many small openings, periods of struggle, and repeated returns. The shifts were gradual and imperfect, but they were real. Over time, I noticed more steadiness, a wider capacity to feel more grounded, and a growing sense of trust and safety within myself, especially when life became difficult.

Later, discovering nervous system and somatic work deepened this understanding and became more of a felt and lived experience. I learned that awareness and presence do not live only in the mind. Our bodies and physiology carry wisdom, too. When we learn to listen and respond with care, change becomes tangible and lived rather than conceptual.

Through all of this, one truth became clear. Presence is not something to achieve. It is what remains when we stop fighting ourselves.
Freebird Meditations exists as a place to land, slow down, and remember what is already here. I do not offer quick fixes, secret formulas, or promises of transformation. I am not here to heal anyone. This work is about sovereignty. About reconnecting with your own innate capacity to regulate, reflect, and choose how you meet your life.

I don’t claim to have all the answers. I’m still learning and unlearning myself. I walk alongside rather than ahead. The practices I share are invitations, not prescriptions, offered to support you in finding your own way back to yourself, at your own pace and in your own time.
Change tends to grow quietly, like a seed given the right conditions. It becomes resilient not because life stops being challenging, but because you learn how to meet what arises with presence and a growing sense of self-trust.

On a more personal note, nature is where I tend to find the deepest solace. I’m drawn to the act of making things, whether that’s sourdough, photographs, or art in whatever form it takes, as well as tending the garden with my husband. I’m oriented toward simpler ways of living and, lately, toward a more analog rhythm of life.

I also love dance music and the freedom of moving my body, the restorative gift of rest, and the quiet pleasure of reading and writing when time allows. Underneath it all is a steady pull toward curiosity, learning, and continued exploration.
Overall, I sense the world has become more complex and challenging, though difficulty has always existed in its own forms. My aim isn't mastery, but meeting it with as much presence and openness as I can, while remembering to remember the simple beauty that still lives within it all.

Thank you for being here. It is an honor to share this path with you.

With metta,
May we all be happy.
May we all know peace.
May we all be free.
Wishing you steadiness, ease, and freedom on your own path,
Katie
