ABOUT FREEBIRD

The freedom we seek does not live outside us. It emerges as we learn to stay present and connected to ourselves and our world, as it is.
Hello, I’m Katie, the voice behind Freebird Meditations. Like many, I came to this work through my own lived experience. A restless mind and spirit, a body carrying unprocessed experience, my own history with trauma, and years spent searching for relief outside myself. I explored many paths in that search. Therapy, self-help, spiritual teachings, plant-based support, esoteric studies, and plenty of what might be called woo-woo. Some offered insight. Some brought temporary relief. None provided the lasting sense of home or freedom I was truly seeking.
What eventually became clear was simple and not easy. Turning toward my experience, on my own, became the work.
When I began practicing meditation and mindfulness more consistently, I started learning how to stay with my experience as it was. The breath. The body. The emotional landscape. At first, this was deeply uncomfortable. Over time, with patience and practice, something began to soften. I learned how to meet myself with compassion and how to remain present without needing to escape my felt experience.
Change did not arrive all at once. It unfolded through small openings, periods of struggle, and countless returns. Discovering nervous system and somatic work deepened this understanding, revealing something essential: awareness does not live only in the mind. Our bodies carry information and intelligence, too.
One truth continues to return me to the center. Presence is not something to achieve. It is what remains when we stop fighting ourselves in the process.
Freebird Meditations exists as a place to land, to slow down, and to remember what is already here. I do not offer quick fixes or promises of transformation. This work is about sovereignty. It is about reconnecting with your own capacity to regulate, reflect, and choose how you meet your life.
I do not claim to have all the answers. I am still learning and unlearning myself. The practices I share are invitations, not prescriptions. They are what have supported me and the folks I work with. They are offered in support of you finding your own way back to yourself, at your own pace.
Change grows quietly, like a seed. It becomes resilient not because life stops being challenging, but because you learn how to meet what arises with presence and self-trust.
On a more personal note, I find my deepest solace in nature and in making things. Sourdough, photographs, art. Tending the garden with my husband. I love moving my body, honoring rest, and spending time reading and writing. Underneath it all lives a steady pull toward curiosity and continued exploration.
My aim is not mastery. It is meeting life’s complexity with as much presence and openness as I can, while remembering the simple beauty that still lives within it.
Thank you for being here. It is an honor to share this path with you.
With metta,
May we all be happy.
May we all be safe.
May we all know peace.
May we all be free.
Wishing you steadiness and ease on your own path.
Katie, Freebird Meditations
